Pichelsteiner Stew(German Stew) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 lb. beef
1/2 lb. pork
1 lb. potatoes
3 oz. marrow or lard
1 3/4 lb. mixed vegetables (carrots, celery, leek, cabbage and onions)
salt
freshly ground pepper, marjoram, cumin seed and parsley
1 bay leaf
2 c. hot broth or bouillon
Preparation

Cut meat and potatoes into pieces.
Dice, slice or cut other vegetables into strips.
Place slices of marrow on bottom of a heatproof casserole or Dutch oven, or, if using lard instead of marrow, brush casserole with lard.
Arrange alternate layers of meat, potatoes and the other vegetables in the casserole.
Season each layer with salt, pepper and herbs.
Add bay leaf.
