Red Astoria Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 oz. red food coloring
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. vinegar
    1 c. buttermilk
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 1/4 c. flour
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 scant tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs; make a paste of coloring and cocoa; add to creamed mixture.
    Sift flour and salt and with buttermilk, add to creamed mixture.
    Stir in vinegar and soda by hand.
    Bake in two 8-inch greased and floured pans at 350\u00b0.
    Cool before frosting.
