Ingredients

1 c. short shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. water
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture.
Stir in buttermilk, vanilla and warm water.
Bake in a lightly greased 9 x 13-inch cake pan at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
