Black Bottom Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 baked (9-inch) pie shell, cooled
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    2 c. milk, scalded
    4 beaten egg yolks
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 (6 oz.) bag semi-sweet chocolate bits
    1 envelope (1 Tbsp.) unflavored gelatine (Knox)
    1/4 c. cold water
    4 egg whites
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Combine sugar and cornstarch.
    Slowly add scalded milk to beaten egg yolks.
    Stir in sugar mixture.
    Cook and stir in top of double boiler over boiling water until mixture coats the spoon. Remove from heat; add vanilla.
