Ingredients

4 eggs, separated
2/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
2 heaping c. flour
1 c. blackberry jam
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar and add beaten yolks.
Sift flour, salt and spices together.
Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.
Fold in egg whites and add jam, stirring very lightly.
Can be baked in loaf pan or layers.
