Picnic Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Pour water over dates and let cool; add soda and stir well. Cream together in other bowl shortening, sugar and eggs; add date mixture.
Add flour, cinnamon, salt and vanilla.
Pour into greased and floured cake pan.
Sprinkle with 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts (be generous). Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
