Pennsylvania Dutch Opera Fudge - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    1/2 c. heavy cream
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation
    Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
    In a heavy saucepan, over very low heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, cream, milk and salt.
    Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 238\u00b0 on a candy thermometer, or the soft ball stage.
    Use very low heat so some of the sugar will caramelize, tinting the mixture with a rich creamy color.
