3/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
2/3 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
powdered sugar
small pecan halves
candied cherry halves
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
Preparation

Cream butter.
Gradually add 2/3 cup powdered sugar; beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to butter mixture, beating until mixture forms a dough.
Divide dough into 5 equal parts.
Shape 1 part of dough into a 9-inch-long cylinder; roll in powdered sugar.
Place shaped dough on an 11 x 4-inch strip of wax paper.
Transfer wax paper with dough to a microwave-safe cookie sheet or a 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
Press 9 pecan halves or cherry halves in a row on top of dough; flatten dough evenly.
