Pat Bittinger'S Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or margarine
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    3 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. ground cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. baking soda
    2 1/2 c. thick applesauce
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. raisins
    2 Tbsp. light Karo syrup
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 300\u00b0.
    Grease a 9-inch tube pan. Cream the butter and sugar. Add eggs.
    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Add applesauce and Karo syrup to butter-sugar mixture.
    Dredge nuts and raisins with a little flour. Add flour mixture to butter-sugar. Add nuts and raisins.
    Bake for 1 1/2 hours. Do not open oven door during the first hour.
    Cake will double in size during baking and turn very dark.
    Let cake cool in pan.
    Invert when cool.
    Cake tastes better 2 or 3 days after baking.
