Fresh Strawberry Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. sliced, fresh strawberries or drained, chopped frozen strawberries
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry-flavored gelatin
    2 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
    3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    4 egg whites
Preparation
    Cream the butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy.
    Add strawberries and gelatin; beat well.
    Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
    Add vanilla; beat well.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Turn into 3 lightly greased and floured 8-inch cake pans. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
    Frost with strawberry frosting.
    Yields three 8-inch layers.
