Caramel Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. white sugar
    3/4 c. milk
    1 stick butter
    1 slightly beaten egg
Preparation
    Place 1/2 cup white sugar in a thick skillet and melt; in the meantime, mix milk, 2 cups sugar, butter and beaten egg.
    Cook over moderate heat and stir.
    When boiling, add melted sugar.
    Cook until soft ball stage, then add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
    Beat and spread.
