Crisp Fried Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large Spanish onions
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg (optional)
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 egg
    1 c. buttermilk
    vegetable oil
Preparation
    Peel onions and cut into 1/2-inch slices and separate into rings.
    Place rings in large bowl; cover with water and refrigerate 1 hour.
    Drain well and dry with paper towels.
