Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. sliced cucumbers
    4 to 5 onions, sliced
    2 c. white vinegar
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. dry mustard seed
    2 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. celery seed
    1/4 c. canning salt
    lots of crushed ice
Preparation
    Combine salt, cucumbers and onions.
    Weigh down with ice.
    Let stand 3 to 4 hours.
    Drain.
    Add all of the rest of the ingredients in a large pot.
    Add onion-cucumber mixture and bring to a boil.
    Cook 3 to 5 minutes until cucumbers look glassy. Pack into clean, hot jars.
    Process in boiling water bath 5 minutes.
    Yields 5 to 6 pints.
