Alabama Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1 c. lukewarm buttermilk
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    4 tsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. soft Crisco
    softened butter for spreading on biscuits
Preparation
    Dissolve yeast in warm buttermilk.
    Set aside.
    Sift together flour, salt, soda and sugar.
    Cut in shortening.
    Add buttermilk and yeast mixture to sifted ingredients.
    Stir until well blended. Knead and roll to 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut with biscuit cutter on greased baking sheet. Place biscuits so they are touching.
    Butter the tops of biscuits. Place a layer of biscuits on top of buttered ones.
    Let rise at room temperature for 1 hour.
    Bake at 425\u00b0 until golden brown.
