Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. sliced strawberries
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. margarine or butter
    1 beaten egg
    2/3 c. milk
    whipped cream (see recipe)
Preparation
    Stir together berries and 1/4 cup of the sugar; set aside. Stir together remaining sugar, flour and baking powder.
    Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    Combine egg and milk; add all at once to dry ingredients.
    Stir just to moisten. Spread into a greased 8 x 1 1/2-inch round baking pan, building up edge slightly.
    Bake in a 450\u00b0 oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Cool in pan 10 minutes.
    Remove from pan.
    Split into 2 layers.
    Spoon the fruit and whipped cream between layers and over top.
