Spiced Apple Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. water
    4 c. sugar
    6 Tbsp. red cinnamon candies
    6 lb. Golden or Red Delicious apples, peeled and quartered
Preparation
    Combine water, sugar and candies in a large kettle.
    Bring mixture to a boil.
    Simmer until candies are dissolved.
    Reserve; add food coloring, if desired.
    Drop apples into slightly salted water; drain.
    Add apples to syrup and simmer apples until slightly tender.
    Pack mixture into sterilized jars.
    Cover with syrup and seal.
