Ingredients

1 stick margarine
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
egg white, beaten stiff
chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation

Beat margarine, butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla together with a beater.
Add flour, then refrigerate for awhile.
Roll into small balls (walnut size) and flatten with bottom of floured glass.
Put on ungreased cookie sheet.
Brush tops with beaten egg whites.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are slightly brown.
Makes about 48 cookies.
