Marinated Vidalias - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 medium Vidalia onions
    1 c. water
    1/4 c. white vinegar
    1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. mayonnaise
    1 tsp. celery seed (optional)
    lettuce leaves (optional)
Preparation
    Slice onions and separate into rings.
    Combine water, sugar and vinegar until sugar dissolves.
    Pour over rings.
    Cover and chill at least 3 hours.
    Drain well.
    Stir in mayonnaise and celery seed.
    Serve on lettuce leaves (or omit celery seed and lettuce and serve as a salad).
