Maui Mexican Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. chopped Maui onion
    3 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
    4 c. chicken broth
    1 c. shredded, cooked chicken breast
    1/2 c. medium picante sauce
    1 (16 oz.) can pinto beans
    6 soft corn tortillas
    1 c. Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
Preparation
    Saute onion and garlic in soup pot.
    Puree tomatoes and add to pot with broth, chicken, picante sauce and beans.
    Simmer 30 minutes.
    Cut tortillas in strips and add to soup.
    Simmer 10 minutes.
    Ladle into bowls.
    Top with cheese.
    Tortilla strips can be fried and drained, then added to hot soup and topped with cheese.
