Basic Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted self-rising flour
    1/4 c. shortening (like Crisco)
    1/2 to 3/4 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Cut shortening into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    Add milk to make a soft dough.
    Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface.
    Knead gently 30 seconds.
    Roll or pat 1/2-inch thick.
    Cut with floured biscuit cutter.
    Bake in a hot 425\u00b0 oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until brown.
    Brush tops with butter before baking.
    Yields twelve 2-inch biscuits.
