Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Melt shortening over low heat.
Cool; then add all other ingredients.
Mix well.
Chill.
Form 1-inch balls.
Roll in granulated sugar.
Place on a greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen.
