Ingredients

2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
Preparation

In a mixing bowl, combine oats, sugars, flour and salt. Combine soda and water.
Stir into oat mixture along with shortening and vanilla. Roll in walnut size balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Yields 3 1/2 dozen.
