Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dates, cut
    2 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. boiling water
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 c. flour
    1 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Put dates and baking soda in a bowl; pour boiling water over date mixture and let stand until cool.
    Cream together the shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs, salt and vanilla.
    Mix well.
    Put in date mixture and flour.
    Mix in nuts.
    Bake 1 hour at 350\u00b0.
