Soft Caramels - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. butter
2 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. white corn syrup
1 can condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chocolate bits
8 oz. chocolate bar (milk or dark)
Preparation

Melt butter in a 3-quart heavy saucepan.
Add sugar.
Stir thoroughly.
Add corn syrup; stir.
Gradually add milk.
Cook (stirring) to 240\u00b0 (30 minutes) or soft ball.
Add vanilla.
Pour into a 9 x 18-inch pan.
Cool and score.
Can be dipped in chocolate.
Melt together chocolate chips and chocolate bar.
Keep hot; dip candy (using 2 forks) until well coated.
Place on cookie sheet or wax paper.
Chill.
