Ingredients

1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. cognac
juice of 1 large orange
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/8 c. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cloves
approximately 6 1/2 c. flour
Preparation

With electric mixer, beat oil, butter, sugar and cognac for 5 minutes; slowly add orange juice and blend well.
Add water and baking soda; blend well.
Add cinnamon, baking powder and cloves; blend well.
Add flour slowly while stirring.
Knead until mixture forms a ball and leaves sides of the bowl (add more flour, if necessary).
