Oven Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cut in 1-inch cubes
    1 c. canned tomatoes
    6 small carrots, cut in strips
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1/2 c. diced celery
    1 slice white bread, broken in pieces
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    3 medium size potatoes, cut into cubes
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. water
Preparation
    Combine the meat, tomatoes (add more if necessary), carrots, onion, celery, bread and sugar.
    Add rest of ingredients; mix thoroughly.
    Pour into a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.
    Cover; bake in a 325\u00b0 oven for about 3 1/2 hours, until meat and vegetables are tender.
    Serve with French bread and green salad.
