Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. raisins or dates
1/2 c. fat (bacon drippings, etc.)
1 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts
3 c. or a little more flour, sifted
1 tsp. soda
Preparation

Simmer raisins in water for 10 minutes.
Cool and drain.
Use water from raisins; bring to boil.
Cream fat and sugar.
Add eggs; beat well.
Add the rest of the ingredients.
Drop by spoonful and bake for 10 minutes at 410\u00b0.
