Country Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium-sized acorn squash (about 1 lb.)
    1 large onion
    4 pork loin blade, rib, loin or sirloin chops (each 1/2-inch thick)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. salad oil
    3/4 c. maple or maple-flavor syrup
    1 (32 oz.) bag or can sauerkraut, drained
    1 (16 oz.) pkg. knockwurst
Preparation
    About 1 1/2 hours before serving, cut acorn squash in half; discard seeds.
    Cut each acorn squash half into 6 chunks; cut onion into 1/2-inch thick slices.
