Date Loaf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. milk or 1/2 c. cream
    2/3 lb. dates, chopped
    1/2 c. coconut
    1/2 c. nuts, chopped
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. butter
Preparation
    Boil sugar and milk for 3 minutes.
    Add dates; stir constantly until it makes a firm ball when tested in water.
    Add butter, vanilla and nuts.
    Pour on buttered plate or roll in wet towel until hard, then slice.
