Faye'S Easy Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers, cut crosswise
    4 Tbsp. alum
    2 Tbsp. plain salt
    2 Tbsp. pickle spices
    5 lb. sugar
    vinegar
Preparation
    Put cucumbers in a gallon jar.
    Fill jar with vinegar, salt, alum and spices.
    Leave for 8 weeks.
    After 8 weeks, drain well; pour off vinegar and spices.
    Add 5 pounds sugar to pickles. Sugar will dissolve and make syrup.
    Refrigeration is not necessary.
    Do not need to seal.
