Saint Lucia'S Crown - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 pkg. active dry yeast
    1/2 c. warm water
    pinch of saffron
    1/2 c. lukewarm milk
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    2 eggs, beaten
    1/4 c. butter, softened
    4 1/2-5 c. flour
    1/2 c, chopped citron
    1/4 c. chopped blanched almonds
    1 tbsp. grated lemon peel
    green and red candied cherries
    1 c. 10x sugar and 1 tsp. water blended for icing
Preparation
    Dissolve yeast in warm water.
    Stir saffron, milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter and 2 1/2 c. of the flour into the yeast mixture.
    Beat until smooth.
    Stir in citron, almonds, lemon peel and remaining flour; enough to make dough easy to handle.
