Slovak Christmas Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. mushrooms, diced
    1/2 lb. sauerkraut
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 qt. milk
    2 Tbsp. onion
    1 Tbsp. butter
    paprika, salt and pepper
Preparation
    Cook mushrooms in 2 quarts water for 30 minutes.
    Add sauerkraut and cook another 15 minutes.
    Melt shortening, then add flour and brown lightly.
    Stir constantly, adding milk.
    Cook until smooth.
    Add to mushrooms and sauerkraut.
    Saute onion in butter, then add to soup.
    Cook 1 minute and season.
