Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 c. light molasses
    1 1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Stir the shortening to soften.
    Gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.
    Add egg and molasses; beat thoroughly. Sift together the dry ingredients; add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water, beating after each addition until smooth.
    Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan in moderate oven, 350\u00b0, for about 45 minutes.
    Serve warm.
    Cut in squares and top with whipped cream.
