Aunt Mary Ella'S Dandy Custard(Floating Island) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. milk
    4 eggs
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 heaping Tbsp. flour
    vanilla to taste
    butter (size of an egg)
Preparation
    Mix flour with sugar.
    Add egg yolks and beat.
    Pour milk in top of double boiler and allow to get hot.
    Add a little hot milk to beaten egg mixture; pour into milk gradually and stir constantly.
    When spoon is coated with custard, add vanilla to taste.
    (This is thin custard though a little thickened.)
    Beat egg whites until stiff.
    Add 2 tablespoons sugar to each egg white, one at a time while beating.
    Pour custard into buttered casserole dish.
    Spoon stiff meringue (the beaten whites) on top.
    Brown in preheated 350\u00b0 oven.
    This is delicious served warm or cool.
