Green Bean Soup(Grun Bohne Suppe; A Family Favorite) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. green beans, diagonal cut 1-inch sections
    1/2 lb. potatoes, cut into small cubes
    1 gal. water
    1 onion, chopped fine
    2 strips bacon, cut into small pieces
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Assemble all ingredients.
    Saute onion and bacon until translucent.
    Add potatoes and water; cook over medium heat until potatoes are done.
    Add string beans; continue to cook until tender.
    Just before serving, add small amount (dollop) of cream or milk to each bowl.
