Pecan Pie - cooking recipe

1 (10-inch) baked pie shell
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
2 c. pecans, ground
4 eggs, separated
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Scald milk.
Combine 1 1/4 cups sugar and cornstarch.
Beat egg yolks and 1/4 cup sugar.
Slowly add sugar and cornstarch mixture to scalded milk, then the egg yolk mixture.
Stir until thickened.
Take off heat; add butter and vanilla.
Let cool. Beat egg whites with 8 tablespoons sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
Pour egg yolk mixture into cooled pie shell and top with meringue.
Bake at 375\u00b0 until light brown.
