Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. milk
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    3 eggs
    6 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation
    Sift flour, then measure.
    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Add beaten eggs and milk.
    Stir lightly and add melted lard.
    Roll on floured board to 1/2-inch thickness.
    Cut with floured doughnut cutter.
    Drop into hot lard and turn as doughnuts come to the top. Continue frying until doughnuts are golden brown.
    Drain on absorbent paper.
    Yields 4 dozen doughnuts.
