Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
3 c. flour
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 Tbsp. water
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla or almond extract
pinch of salt
Preparation

Cream shortening; add sugar, beaten eggs and vanilla.
Sift flour, salt, cream of tartar and add to mixture.
Dissolve soda in 1 tablespoon of cold water.
Mix thoroughly and make into 2 long rolls.
Place in refrigerator overnight.
Slice thin and bake.
