Lo-Cal Date-Nut Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg
    3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    2 egg whites
    1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/4 c. whole wheat flour
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. pitted, chopped dates
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    vegetable cooking spray
    powdered sugar (optional)
Preparation
    Combine egg and brown sugar in a large bowl; beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
    Beat egg whites (at room temperature) in a medium bowl at high speed until stiff peaks form.
    Fold egg whites into beaten egg mixture.
    Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to egg mixture, stirring until well blended.
    Stir in vanilla.
