Oven Style Swiss Steak - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef round steak (1-inch thick)
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 medium onion, sliced (1/2 c.)
    1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained
    1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Preparation
    Trim fat from meat.
    Pound meat with meat mallet.
    Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    Place meat in 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 x 1 3/4-inch baking dish.
    Top with onions and mushrooms.
    Pour sauce over all. Cook, covered, at 350\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours.
    Uncover, cook 15 minutes longer.
    Baste occasionally.
    To serve, spoon sauce over meat. Serves 8.
