Hamburger Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 c. chopped onion
    1 c. cubed potato
    1 c. diced carrots
    1/2 c. diced celery
    1 c. shredded cabbage
    1 1/4 qt. water
    1/4 c. rice
    1 small bay leaf
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. basil
    2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
Preparation
    Cook beef and onion until slightly browned.
    Add water and potato, bring to boil.
    Add remaining ingredients.
    Cover and simmer 1 hour.
    To serve, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
