Cracker Jacks - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 c. water
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. soda
    3 to 3 1/2 qt. popped popcorn
Preparation
    Put first 5 ingredients in a large saucepan (4 quart capacity) over medium heat without stirring.
    Let cook until mixture turns from clear to golden yellow.
    Remove from heat.
    Add soda and stir. Mixture will foam, while it is foaming add popcorn to it.
    Nuts may be added, if desired.
    Place in a greased pan to cool and with buttered hands form into balls.
