Date-Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. boiling water
    8 oz. pitted, chopped dates
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
    1/2 c. orange juice
    1 beaten egg
    2 c. sifted flour
    1/3 c. sugar
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over dates and shortening.
    Cool to room temperature.
    Add orange peel and juice and egg.
    Sift together flour, sugar, salt, soda and baking powder.
    Add to date mixture and stir just until mixed.
    Turn into 3 greased miniature loaf pans and bake at 325\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes, or one 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan and bake for 1 hour.
    Cool, wrap and store overnight.
