New Year'S Day Bean Soup - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 pkg. beans
2 Tbsp. salt
2 qt. water
2 nice ham hocks
1 large onion, chopped
1 (No. 2 1/2) can tomatoes (optional)
1 tsp. chili powder
juice of lemon
salt and pepper
Preparation

Wash beans.
Place in large kettle.
Cover with water 2-inches. Add 2 tablespoons salt.
Soak overnight.
Drain in morning.
Add 2 quarts water and ham hocks or ham.
Bring to boil.
Simmer slowly 3 hours.
Add onion (tomatoes, if desired).
Season with chili powder, lemon, salt and pepper.
Remove ham hock or ham.
Cut up meat and add to soup.
Good with tossed salad and crackers.
