Boiled Custard - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 gal. milk
    1 c. sugar
    8 whole eggs
Preparation
    Put milk in kettle.
    Set kettle in larger pan with water. Heat to boiling.
    Beat eggs and 1/2 cup sugar.
    Beat well; put rest of sugar in hot milk.
    Add 1 cup of hot milk to eggs.
    Beat well, then pour slowly through a strainer into hot milk.
    Cook 10 minutes; never let boil.
    Stir while cooking.
    Add vanilla to taste.
    Chill and serve with whipped cream.
