Mock Apple Ring - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers, peeled, cored and sliced
    8 1/2 qt. water
    2 c. lime
    1 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. alum
    1 oz. red food coloring
    cucumbers
    water (enough to cover cucumbers)
    2 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
    10 c. sugar
    8 sticks cinnamon
    1 large (approximately 6 oz.) red hots/cinnamon candies
Preparation
    Bring to a boil and pour over drained cucumbers in large container with tight-fitting lid.
    A large Tupperware works well. Let set 24 hours.
    Drain liquid.
    Reheat and pour it back over cucumbers each day for 3 days.
    On the 4th day, reheat liquid and cucumbers to boiling.
    Fill sterilized jars and seal.
