No-Seal Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. cucumbers, sliced
    1 qt. vinegar
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. powdered alum
    5 c. sugar (added separately)
    1/3 c. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. pickle spice mix
Preparation
    Sprinkle salt over cucumbers and cover with boiling water. Let stand overnight, then drain.
    Combine all remaining ingredients in saucepan.
    Bring to a boil and pour over cucumbers. Let stand for 5 days, adding 1 cup sugar each day.
    Stir well. You do not have to seal or refrigerate.
