Molasses Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. molasses
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    dash of salt
    5 1/2 c. flour
    about 6 1/2 c. apple butter
Preparation
    Combine sugar, shortening and molasses; beat until smooth.
    Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, ginger and salt; mix well.
    Add flour, about a cup at a time, beating just until blended after each addition (do not overbeat).
    Divide dough into ten portions and place each on a greased cookie sheet or 10-inch cake pan; pat into a 10-inch circle.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 5 to 7 minutes.
    Remove to cooling rack.
    Stack the layers, spreading about 2/3 cup apple butter between each.
