Dean'S Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

2 1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
3 eggs
3 sq. chocolate, melted
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. boiling water
Preparation

Cream together brown sugar and shortening.
Add eggs one at a time and beat well.
Add melted chocolate.
Sift together dry ingredients and add, alternating with the buttermilk.
Blend well. Add vanilla and boiling water and mix well.
Pour into two prepared 9-inch layer pans.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes or until done.
Best frosted with 7 minute frosting.
