Aunt Della'S Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

6 qt. basket cucumbers
5 c. white vinegar
small handful pickling spice
1 tsp. alum
5 tsp. salt
1 c. white sugar
Preparation

Wash cucumbers and cover with boiling water; let set overnight.
Drain and dry in morning.
Cut cucumbers in desired quarts.
Place in crock.
Boil vinegar, pickling spice, alum, salt and sugar.
When cool, pour over cucumbers in crock.
Everyday thereafter for 8 days, add 1 cup of sugar and stir well.
If cucumbers seem a bit soft, add 1 teaspoon alum on last day.
On last day, sterilize bottle and lids.
Drain liquid and bring to boil.
Pack cucumbers in hot sterilized jars.
Pour hot syrup over cucumbers and seal.
